Orbital tumors

Various developmental abnormalities, inflammatory disorders and systemic disorders also involving the ocular muscles can be encountered in the orbit as well as true neoplasms, cysts and other tumoral lesions. Orbital tumors may be primary or secondary. A different tumor spectrum is encountered in adults and children. Choristomas, tumors of various mesenchymal tissues, epithelial neoplasms of the lacrimal tissues, lymphoid neoplasms and miscellaneous tumors occur in the orbit. Additionally, the tumors of adjacent anatomical structures may involve the orbit and metastatic tumors arising from various body sites may be noted in the orbital tissues. Differences may exist between the data of orbital tumor series from various countries owing to the geographic and socio-cultural factors
