Bu çalışmada Horatius'un lirik şiirlerinde sık sık yer verdiği tanrı Iuppiter ele alınmıştır. Ozanın şiirlerinde değindiği luppiter'in nitelikleri, kimlikleri ve bu özellikleriyle tanrının ilgilendiği olaylar araştırılmıştır. Horatius, yüce, güç bakımından eşsiz Iuppiter'i evrende bir baba gibi düzeni sağlayan, bir bekçi gibi her şeyi korumaya çalışan tanrı olarak sunmuştur. Bu amaçla Iuppiter ozanın şiirlerinde çoğu kez uyarıcı, kimi zaman öfkelenip ceza veren ama, hoşnut edilirse bağışlayan tanrıdır. Horatius'un lirik şiirlerinden luppiter'in davranış biçimi ne olursa olsun, topluma bir çeki düzen vermek için insanlık yararına işler yaparak onların mutluluğunu ve huzurunu sağlayan bir tanrı olduğu kanısına varılmıştır.

In this study, Iuppiter, who is the god mentioned frequently in the lyric poems of Horace, is analysed with respect to his characteristics, identities, and the matters he considers. Horace presents Iuppiter, a supreme and a ıınique power, as the god putting in order the universe like a father of human being and protecting everthing from danger like a guardian. Iuppiter is described in the poems of Horace as the god warning people in most cases, getting angry and pıınishing them occasionally, and granting them when he is gratified. The main finding of this study is that Horace represents Iuppiter in his lyric poems as a benevolent god for human being in order to put in order the society regardless of the ways in which he behaves. So, he helps people achieve repose and happiness.
