Posttraumatic appendicitis; Is it true or rumor?

Several cases of appendicitis after blunt abdominal trauma have been reported in the literature. Whether there is a causative relationship between these two entities has long been a subject of debate. In the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, a well-received history and a good physical examination is very important. However, history and physical examination findings on cases of after blunt abdominal trauma may be misleading. Therefore, in these cases the symptoms associated with trauma may delay the diagnosis of acute appendicitis. We report a case of posttraumatic appendicitis and discuss possible pathogenetic mechanisms.
